Bloomsday in Bruff : Thursday 16th June 2016
The annual celebration of the works of the writer James Joyce takes place on Thursday 16th June, with the opening ceremony at 11.00 at the Church of Ireland building, Main Street, Bruff. This most distinctive Festival is now in its ninth Year.
This year is the 100th anniversary of the publication of "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" perhaps the most accessible of the works of James Joyce. There will be a Joycean Breakfast, Music, Drama, Readings, Film, Talks and more... The Festival will be opened as is our tradition by Bruff's own Mary Harvey, star of stage and screen. Mick Lacey, musician, poet and raconteur, will be a guest. Nenagh Writers Group will present a rehearsed reading drama based on the Dubliners, short story The Dead. Bruff's connection with Sean O'Riada will be commemorated by a first performance of part of 'Mise Eire' by the Brass Quintet, "No Strings Attached" Permission has been granted by the Sean O'ORiada Foundation for this short premiere of this work. Poet, Evelyn Casey will reprise her stunning performance of Molly's Soliloquy from Ulysses
If you would like to help in any way, by reading, playing some music, contributing some raffle prizes please get in touch with us at 0872127521 or bloomsdayinbruff@gmail.com.
