The Borderbend Arts Collective (Chicago) is inviting individuals and organizations to contribute to “Bloomsday 2012 & Ulysses’ 90th,” an international project that celebrates Bloomsday 2012 and the 90th anniversary of the publication of James Joyce’s Ulysses. Please send an email to Ulysses90th@gmail.com with Bloomsday 2012 in the subject line if you are interested in contributing to “Bloomsday 2012 & Ulysses’ 90th” -- such as visual or literary responses to Ulysses, sound art inspired by Ulysses, or other kinds of contributions and collaborations. Updates regarding the Bloomsday 2012 project will be posted on www.bloomsday2012.org and other TBA websites and blogs

The greatest of all Christmas stories

The greatest of all Christmas stories, James Joyce‘s “The Dead,” the last story in “Dubliners,” was written in little over a month as Joyce forged the uncreated conscience of his race from an apartment in Trieste, Italy. John Huston’s 1988 film was made in roughly the same amount of time (in 33 days, actually ). Much of it, including all the interiors, was shot in a warehouse in Valencia, Calif. End of 'Ulysses' copyright will breathe new life into Bloomsday

THE EXPIRY of the copyright on James Joyce’s Ulysses next 

year will liberate the text from the “notoriously restrictive” 

instincts of his grandson Stephen Joyce, .

The lifting of the copyright restrictions will  be celebrated by 

a fresh approach to aspects of Ulysses in Bruff’s 


Bloomsday celebration.

The Bloomsday festival  ths coming year sees 


Bloomsday (16^th June) fall on a Saturday.
